Trim tab question

Post by CollegeFund »

I have a 2003 240, I am adding trim tabs, my boat guy told me to get the biggest I can. I did. I picked up some Lenco 9X12's. I knew going in I would have to move my Speedo and water temp sensor. How close can I go to the outdrive.

Hey CF. I had some installed last year.

The further out the better if not just for the leverage. Balance visual looks with practicality as well. The sweet spot on the Vee is about half way up on the 260 series.

Do you have a pic of your transom?

If you get too close to the outdrive line, they are not very effective and can also introduce air into the prop.
At least a foot either side of the outdrive will be fine.

Sorry, my question wasn’t clear. How close can I move the speedo and temp gauge to the drive. Yours looks closer than mine

My tabs are the same length as yours, but 12” wide instead of 9”.

Roger that
Those can be fairly close to the bottom of the vee.

MerCruiser uses a speedo pick up in the outdrive itself. Volvo has an external one on the transom. No issues with those interfering with the prop or Outdrive.

That is the temperature gauge wire you see in my picture running down the transom.

Mount away my friend.

Yes it did. I liked it. I don't think I ever looked at his other speedo. The one I showed I think fit perfectly in place of the original.

I would love to go GPS, my problem, and it’s not a problem, I have Cobalt’s version of perfect pass. It looks factory. Don’t want to mess with it!

Boy do they use that pick up for that?
Pictures. I think it had that metal box thing on top of the engine.

Ha! BBs idea of a perfect pass has something to do with a bowel movement...
