I'm in Rochester but Canandaigua Lake is home.

Anyone else up this way?

Anyone got any cool ideas for day trips on any of the Finger Lakes? Would like to drop in with the family in the morning and cruise for the day... any sightseeing or itinerary would be helpful.

May be talking to myself but am located in Rochester, NY - so I have access to several different lakes that have day trip possibilities within reason.

Decided to rent a place on Keuka for a week in mid June. Anyone have any ideas or insight into the lake itself? I spend most of my time on Canandaigua so this is new territory for me.

Ha! thanks BB. For a long time it was just John and i in here. Nice to see you contributing all around.

Finger Lakes are exceptional. Glacial lakes. My family has had a spot on Canandaguia since the early 1800's so a ton of history there. the Seneca Indians called it the "Chosen Spot". It's unbelievable.

But there are several other lakes around me including Lake Ontario which is 15 minutes away. Part of the reason I chose the 190 - so I could pop all around to these different lakes. I'm an avid angler but haven't been able to fish at all since my first kid came along 4 years ago. Don't want too much fishing in the Cobalt so I'm repurposing an early 50's Boston Whaler with that in mind.

Headed to Keuka this weekend, rented a place there to get away from some of the family with just MY family - wife and kids.

supposed to be amazing. Water is still a bit cold but the kids don't care... just me.

Will report back.

Here's a shot of Canandaigua from our porch.

You can see why the Seneca's called it "The Chosen Spot"

It's my favorite place in the world. Beach is all perfect skipping stones.

My family built the house in 1863. My little guys are 7th generation to scrape their knees, catch fish and snakes and grow up on the lake.

I sleep like a baby when I'm there.

I've never been to your part of the world. Some day. Is it sand too? Looks like God's country for sure.

No, shale. Perfect thin, smooth skipping stones.

When we were kids my father got a dumptruck of sand and dumped it on the beach... lasted a few years.

Headed down to Canandaigua tomorrow. Moving in for the last of the summer. I'll commute to work from there - head in late, come back early and take a few days here and there. Boat'll be on the lift for the next month so easy access. pics to come.
