Any Difference Between 17,18' vs 19,20 R7 Surf

Post by 007DT »

Shopping for an R7 Surf.

Looking at 17-20' Model years. Is there any difference in these years, functionally? The only notable that I've seen are the Surf controls from buttons to Glass dash. Otherwise I have not noted anything?

Very interested in feedback from those that have also shopped these and/or have experience w/ one vs. the other...

Lastly as 2017 is the first model year for the surf were there any inherent issues I should look out for and/or otherwise not consider that year R7Surf.

TIA

19 and 20 models are using the new Gen 5 GM motors so the 6.2 vs the old 6.0

A bunch of guys have had issues with the ballast tanks draining by themselves. They just had to loop some hoses. Search the surf boat tabs and stuff. Good info in them. Nothing though that would stop me from buying one.
Are you going to be on a lift? Deep lake? Trailering it?

It'll be Deep water. Lake Lanier. For now at a marina, eventually on a lift. Plan is to buy it w/ a trailer so that we can try other lakes and determine where we want to get a house.

With regard to the 6.2 vs 6.0 no issues w/ the 6.0?

The question we should be asking is what difference is there between the R7 Surf and the soon to be announced R8 Surf? There will no doubt be a Malibu influence on the R series surf boats and with Malibu known to compete favourably against Nautique and others in the surf world, I’d expect any Malibu design transfer (Surf gate?) to Cobalt’s new surf series boats would yield improvements over the current R series. I’m sure there will be information soon.

I’m not sure what year they found out that the center locker ballast take wasn’t needed. But that was one of the reasons we selected the R7 surf over the R5 was the center locker for storage. I believe in the ‘17 that was taken up by a ballast take.
