2020 in the books

Post by sailor55330 »

Well , for the second year in a row boating season is pretty much cancelled. Mrs sailor underwent a second fusion and stenosis surgery yesterday to relieve pressure on nerves affecting her arm and fingers. A continuation from the earlier surgery that did not fix the issue completely She’s fine but in significant pain. She now has rods to match her plate and the sensation is starting to come back which is good.
Doesn’t look like any boating again this summer at least not anytime soon. Sometimes I guess you just gotta laugh—maybe this is the fates telling me mine

I’m so sorry to hear that sailor. That’s some tough news. Thanks for sharing that with the group and we will keep you both in our thoughts & prayers.
...and who knows. The summer is still young. You may still get out there on the water yet my friend. 8-)

Man I hope this works for you two. But let's cross your fingers the boat gets wet a few times.

She's hanging in there Tuscany. She's tough and stubborn, which is a good and bad thing. We are both just ready for everything to get back to normal--she's had a lousy 2.5 year run. The good news is the surgery seems to have been successful, with significant feeling back in the extremities and strength. The down side is it's been a painful recovery (apparently anterior infusion recovery is less painful than posterior fusion). Hoping this is over soon and the Dr clears her. 7/16 is/could be the magic date.

Thank you for asking.

Well, if there is a year to be stuck home, this is the one. At the very least, you’re avoiding the Covid crowds..

Hopefully the healing proceeds along well. If you have to miss out on a summer, this could be the one.

We haven't even bothered to splash the boat in yet. The local wharfs have been closed to public use while the lobster and Snow crab seasons were underway. They just wrapped up on the 4th. By the time the gear gets cleared off of the wharf and we can park the empty trailers on the wharf for day use will be the 11th.

Having back issues myself, there is nothing worse than boating with the thought of hitting a wake and ruining a day. Let her heal properly.

Sailor, getting old sucks, as does losing time. My right eye has a plastic lens that doesn't change focus anymore as of earlier this summer, and while it's small compared to the things you guys are going through it took me by surprise, put me out of commission for a while, and makes me feel old. But, focusing on the good times and on that medical issue no longer being a problem going forward makes it somewhat easier.

Hope you guys are hanging in there. We've tried to do some "fake boating," i.e., going to Fletcher's or Maynards (I think you're Twin Cities?) and hanging out on the docks for a long lunch when other factors make it tough to get the boat. Best of luck with a speedy and full recovery!

Thank you everyone for the well wishes. At this point 2020 is a write off and if anything happens this summer its a bonus I guess. I haven’t even had the desire to pull the cover. I’m sure we aren fairing better than some so no use complaining

And yes we are twin Cities

Sorry to hear of your wife’s health troubles and best of luck with her recovery. As a fellow Twin Cities resident I know how precious the short season is.

So, update.... boating has been "approved" but only in low speed idle type of situations...no wakes if at all possible. Next update, end of August.

At least I'll save on winterization..... but I need to drain the tank this year. not letting it sit again.

Glad you wife got a good report. Week day boating may be the answer to the "no wakes" order from doctor.
Good luck, and keep us posted.
