Van Conversion

Post by XLI »

My daughter has always had a bad case of wanderlust. She has done two stints in Europe, one for 4 months solo. She now is set on getting a full size van and converting it to something quasi livable. Without much money she is understandably limited to 15 year old and older models. Any recommendations of year / make / model to either seek out or avoid? Any GM, Ford or Dodge engines to avoid if several were available for a given year? She keeps bringing me ads and I really don't have a frame of reference for what to avoid and so forth. Thanks for any knowledge you good people can lay down.

Thanks BBP. There seem to be a lot of Chevy vans in our area and her price range.

Surely she would be better off buying something built for this or one of those small towable campers.

What’s her budget?

Don’t buy any Ford with a Triton engine. Chevy makes a good work van, and they are very cheap even brand new.

Budget is $3.5K or so. I said the same thing regarding a camper. She isn't very keen on towing (backing, tight spaces and the like). However her main concern was having to go outside to get to her vehicle if she felt unsafe in a situation which I appreciate.

I figured the budget was around that when you said dodge. Lol
They can be found 5.7 in a van you're set.
