2011 210 or 2018 220

Post by drekar »

Just putting it out there for the cobalt group:

2011 210 - Volvo Penta 300 - Dual Prop
150 hours
$43000

2018 220s - MerCruiser 300 - Dual Prop
70 hours
$68000

Which one would you choose and why? (if you are willing to share)

Also, any ideas for fuel consumption or top speed on either of these?

Can 7 years and 25k be apples to oranges? To me it is. However, my next boat purchase will be based on

Model, color, power plant, condition, trailer.

The biggest thing that stands out in your post is merc vs Volvo. I like my Volvo but if I had to do it again I’d probably insist on merc. No one near me sells Volvo parts or works on them.

Post some pics!

I guess that's what I'm wondering - I'm crunching the numbers and trying to determine which is the overall better deal.

The Volvo / MerCruiser debate will wage long after this post but it's still interesting to me. :D

The 2018 is pretty close if not the price as it sold new. IDK about the 2011 price we weren't into Cobalts back then. I would want a test drive in both to see how they ride. Then it would be condition condition condition. The VP/Merc is always a debate, we dont have any local VP shops either but after I had one VP I grew to like it very well and will travel or order parts to support our new one.

Let's see pictures and options?
Engine is equal both Prob do 52?
2 totally diff boats Interior wise.
I see 2015 210s going for 60k so neither is a better deal than the other. Buy the one that fits your family.
I like volvo for maint. I like merc because it's black! Oh plus I love by the factory and my brother works there.
Mine is 50k with a bb if you want!
Fuel comsumption will be about 6 mpg. But who cares your having fun. You worried about fuel buy prius! Or a 240hp.

I agree with the apples to oranges.
I'm also thinking, whatever choice you make, don't look back.
Cobalt vs Cobalt, you can't go wrong. I see 20+ year old Cobalts all the time looking and running great.
We are 11th season with Volvo Penta and have never had a repair, but several places locally work on Volvo.
Only times we were towed was because battery was too old, and fuel filter was full of ethanol. Neither will happen again.
To me the biggest choice is the $25k. That would go a long way toward new sea grass, music upgrade, etc.
Did you like one interior better? One exterior better. Trailers similar?
Good luck.

Well - thank you all.

I ended up with a 2021 Cobalt 220s.

Slightly used - 30 hours in impeccable condition. I ended up at 66500.

My family and I are looking forward to using this boat for many years - thank you all that offered input.

This has the 6.2 300 Mercruiser. It has things I wouldn't not have necessarily ordered but for over 20K off of brand new, it seemed like a good deal.

That is a boat load of options  . Was the seller completely oblivious to current market conditions?

No... he just didn't care, he had a new cobalt on order.... Much larger and wanted to get just over what the dealer would give for trade-in credit.

Really a great guy and took great care of the boat - just wanted something to play with while the bigger one was being built.
