Latest SW for Garmin 742 Plus.

Post by stifflkd »

Anyone download the latest SW (June 22, 2022) for their Garmin 742 Plus. Really disappointed in the new graphical interface on the Gauge display. Interested to hear others thoughts.

I did on my 8610. Didn't really play around with it too much but the gauges have a bit more color (pop). I like it.

I think I am in the minority. My kids think it looks good. I only wish there was more contrast of the bezel (outline) of the gauges

Did Cobalt move to the 742 plus from the 7607 in 2021 for the R5? Our 2020 R5 has 7607s and the update did not make the gauges look like that.

Slightly related note - the new SW update has messed up my trim gauge (or it could be a coincidence). Now with the drive fully trimmed down, it shows 17%-18% on the trim gauge.

Don't know. When I go to the app Active Captain it lists GPSMAP 742 Plus SW V28.10 for both panels.

Do you have a VP? What is it reading on the EVC? VP reports degrees and the Garmin reports %. Straight down VP is 0 degrees which corresponds to about 14% on the Garmin. +30 degrees = 100%, -7 degrees (?) = 0%

My ActiveCaptain for 2020 R5 says GPSMAP 7607 J1939 v20.40 (twice)

The EVC show 1 degree and Garmin is at 17-18%. I can't get the trim to go below 1 or 0 on the EVC.

I don't think its the SW. Looks like the Garmin is following the EVC. But I would agree, the trim all the way down should read around -5 degrees +/-

Makes sense. If the range for a twin prop is from -5 degree to 30 degree, than 18% of that range is about 1.3 degrees. So it sounds like I have an issue with power trim assist or just the trim in general.

On the new R series boats, does anyone know where the SD Card goes. The even series there is the little door in the front. I don't see anything like that on my R8...

The 86xx series that we have in the R4/6/8 come with an SD card already installed. The slot is on the rear of the unit.
